Nate beating someone at chess

Chess is a two-player strategy board game played on a chessboard, a checkered gameboard with 64 squares arranged in an 8 by 8 tile grid. The game is frequently played at P.S. 38, as well as against other schools.

Nate Wright is very good at the board game. However, Artur Pashkov proved to be a better player, as he was the best player in the entire country of Belarus before he moved to the United States (USA).

Objective[]

The objective of the game is to trap your opponent's king. Once you have done so, you say "Checkmate". Different pieces can move in different ways.

Pieces and Moves[]

  • Pawn - During a move, a pawn can move forward one space (2 on the first move of each pawn); and capture diagonally forward. Once a pawn reaches the other end of the chess board, it has a promotion and can become a previously captured piece.
  • Knight - This is the only piece that can jump over pieces. Knights moves and captures in an L shaped pattern (two spaces vertically, one space horizontally) in any direction.
  • Rook - Rooks move and capture in any number of spaces in a line forward, sideways, and backwards. They cannot jump over pieces.
  • Bishop - Bishops can move any number of squares diagonally. They cannot jump over pieces.
  • Queen - A queen is the most powerful piece and combine the moves of a Rook and a Bishop. They cannot jump over pieces however.
  • King - Kings can move in one square in any direction. When a piece is able to capture the King in the next move, the person says "Check". Once the opposing King is trapped and unable to move absolutely anywhere on the board, the player calls "checkmate."
